What is the Digital Divide?

The digital divide describes the disparities between people who have the opportunities and skills enabling them to benefit from digital resources and those who don’t have the opportunities or skills. While digital skills are second nature for many adults today, there are still people who need help navigating their way through important technologies that are vital to economic advancement.

Additionally, there has been an increasing demand for digitally literate adults to fill middle-skills jobs, which make up around 39 percent of the U.S. job market. Skills such as word processing and spreadsheet creation are extremely important for these jobs, and adults without these skills may find it hard to gain or keep employment.

At Hashtag Skilled, we’re working so these adults don’t get left behind. We believe in a future where every adult, no matter race, gender or income level, has access to digital technologies and the digital literacy needed to succeed.
